Author Interview – AK Taylor

at 1:30 AM

How did you come up with the title? The title for The Newbie Author’s Survival Guide came about from both an idea and a perception of the publishing world around me. I built on the idea of a “survival guide and toolkit” for authors that functions like a survival manual someone would use in the wilderness. I spend so much time in the wilderness that survival skills are like second nature.

What was the hardest part about writing this book? Can we expect more books from you in the future? Oh yeah. I have many more of the Neiko Adventure Saga awaiting edits, rewrites and publication and others to be written—and I am writing another one right now, an idea for another nonfiction about bullying, and possibly a new ideas for YA thrillers and mysteries, but that’s something still bouncing around right now.

What do you do to unwind and relax? I go to the woods on a deep wood hike, go fishing, read a book, or play video games. I also write to unwind.

Do you travel much concerning your book(s)? At this present time, no not really. I’ve mostly stayed in my home state and local area. Maybe someday, though.

What contributes to making a writer successful? First and foremost, putting out a good professional product. This has been said ten thousand times–and this makes it ten thousand and one, but it is so important. Having a good, reliable network is another and this is something I had to learn on my own on the fly.

After crash landing into self publishing with nothing but the clothes she had on, author AK Taylor fought for survival with trying to market her books on a small budget. After two years of trial and error, reworking, refining, and reaching out, she has created the first survival guide for book marketing compiled of great tools and resources that can be used by any author during the rough times.

Comparing the book marketing wilderness with the real wilderness is how Taylor viewed the publishing world around her. Growing up in the woods and learning survival skills has given her this unique viewpoint for a different kind of world. When she started her search for information, a book marketing survival guide didn’t exist—until now.
