Author Interview – Alan P. Chan, Pharm. D

at 1:30 AM

How much of the book is realistic? “The Critical Flaw: How to profit and protect wealth in history’s greatest opportunity” is a business oriented book, Personal Finance/Investment category, therefore is 100% non-fiction and evidence based.

Have you included a lot of your life experiences in the book? One of my goals was to share with the rest of the world my experience and what I have learned from it in order to help others, thus, yes, I have included some of my life experiences in my book.

What are your goals as a writer? My general goals as a writer are to contribute to ones general knowledge and to provide my readers with the information they crave for when seeking my book.

A book is like a business relationship with a client, but on a more personal level. Your readers buy your book because they are attracted by something you said. As a result, you should deliver in your book what you promised in your description. My primary goal is “walking the talk”, ergo, delivering what I have promised.

Do you have to travel much concerning your book(s)? Yes, I like to travel to other countries in order to observe people’s reaction and behaviors towards their monetary policies.

What books have most influenced your life? I can say that the Bible had a crucial effect on my life. Emphasizing on this, I feel really empowered by this quote “I’ve commended you to be strong and brave. Don’t ever be afraid or discouraged! I am your Lord your God, and I will be there to help you wherever you go” – Joshua 1:9.

I believe that faith and trust is important in life and as a matter of fact, in anything we do. There are too much fear and worry in the world that just get in the way of productivity.

Have you ever considered anyone as a mentor? Mentors are important in my life. Over the time I had plenty of mentors, starting with my father. Also, I regard Dr. Napoleon Hill as another mentor and the list could be continued.

My father had a crucial impact on my entrepreneurial mindset. From my father, who is also a businessman, learning the business ropes and etiquette was very important in my childhood. I believe that the way to enjoy life is by achieving financial freedom, and you can do that by owning your business. Financial security and freedom gives you time, time that you can spend with your loved ones, doing things you enjoy and investing time in the causes you believe in.

Also, this difference in perspective gives you freedom of choice – you work because you want to, because it’s a pleasure; you don’t work because you have to, because you are obliged by norms or by financial insecurity.

I could view the entrepreneurial mindset as a reason people should buy my book: they would see another perspective on life.

Who is your favorite author and why? My favorite author is Dr. Napoleon Hill and his book “The Law of Success”. Why? Because I found it really helpful and practical not only in business, but also in everyday personal and spiritual life.

Can we expect any more books from you in the future? I am in the process of writing my second book, again a non-fiction one, on trading. I expect to have it published by the fall of 2013, thus, my readers will be able to buy it this year.

Have you started another book yet? Yes, I have started a new project. It’s a non-fiction book, on trading and I expect to have it published by the fall of 2013.

Where do you see yourself in five years? I have a baby on the way, therefore my five years plan is focused on my family. Besides being an author, I am an entrepreneur; therefore I can state that I have financial freedom and security due to my business acumen. Ergo, in five years I see myself traveling with my wife and kids all over the world on frequent mission trips.

What are your current writing projects now? I have a work in progress for the moment, a new business book on trading. 100% non-fiction, as my current one, with proven stats and data. Stay tuned as it will be published in the fall of 2013.

Are you reading any interesting books at the moment? I have a new member of my family coming fast, so, I am now reading “To Raise Happy Kids, Put Your Marriage First” by David Code. Quite interesting I may say!

Are there any new authors that have sparked your interest and why? No, I can’t say there are any new authors that have sparked my interest, not at the moment. However, I am sure there are plenty of talented authors out there and I wish everybody happy writing!

What are some of the best tools available today for writers, especially those just starting out? I believe CreateSpace is a valuable tool for writers, especially those just starting out. Check it out!

What contributes to making a writer successful? I believe that a writer will be successful if he is passionate about what he writes about and if he has a thorough research deployed. Also, hiring a competent  Marketing or PR Firm will help! J

Do you have any advice for writers? Yes, I have some advice for my fellow writers out there!

1. Write something you are interested or have expertise in.
2. Know how you want to publish it.
3. Know your industry.
4. Hire a publicist.
5. Network with similar mindsets.
6. Have a marketing plan.
7. Hire a few editors.

Do you have any specific last thoughts that you want to say to your readers? I would like to end with a motivational quote: Anything is possible. Just do it!

What do you do to unwind and relax? From time to time, I like to read with a glass of wine (or tea/coffee) overlooking the ocean. Relaxation at its best!

What dreams have been realized as a result of your writing? I have always dreamt of becoming a published Author. And in 2013, my dream came true! I am now a published author thanks to my first book: “The Critical Flaw: How to profit and protect wealth in history’s greatest opportunity”.

Do you have any upcoming appearances that you would like to share with us? My next book will be published in the fall of 2013, a book on trading, 100% non-fiction.
