Author Interview – Marc DiGiacomo

at 6:30 AM

Do I plan to publish more books? Yes, I do, as a matter of fact I am putting together the sequel to In A Small Town and plan on having it out by the Fall 2013.

What other jobs have I had in my life? My first job was a paperboy. I was eleven and made $26 bucks my first week. After that, I worked in a deli. lifeguard, phone company, then my local police department hired me in 1997.

Tell us about your new book, what’s is about and why did I write it? In A Small Town, is a crime thriller that takes place in the small town of Hutchville, N.Y. The main character is Det. Matthew Longo, who gets shot at the very beginning of the book and goes through a painful recovery both physically and mentally. While recuperating from his injuries Matt has painful recurring nightmares of horrific crime scenes he had viewed as a young police officer. He returns to work to find crime escalating rapidly within his community. He is determined to not let his small town become a haven for criminals. Det. Longo works closely with his partner and mentor Det. Donny Mello who is absent during Matt’s shooting as he is attending a funeral in Italy for his grandfather who happens to be a mobster. The two men have completely different styles of policing which causes problems for them both. While Donny is in Italy, a FBI agent named Cynthia Shyler is looking for him and questions Matt about his whereabouts.

I wrote this book because so often I read crime thrillers which fail to capture the grittiness of what a cop has to deal with while at work. Unless you have been there, it is really hard to accurately depict a crime scene properly. So many times I have read books from famous authors that have mistakes in evidence collection, photography and basic crime scene protocol. I wanted to show what most police officers deal with on an everyday basis without adding in Hollywood nonsense.

How often do I write? And when do I write? I try to write everyday, usually in the morning while the kids are at school.

What’s your favorite meal? Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixings.

Do you find the time to read? I make time to read every night. After the kids go to sleep, I crack open my latest obsession.
