The Dunes

In the heart of the universe, in a land not so far away, exists a place of imminent transformation. It is a place undiscovered by most, and sought out by a daring few, a place where the best and the worst are revealed without filter, and the quest, though formidable, begets a masterpiece of the soul. In this place, a war is waged against the stagnant heart that seeks to cling to what was and cripple new life with old fears. And so it has been that only the brave in spirit venture upon it, content to reap its end result as their reward. Thus believing in change, they call this place “The Dunes”.

Not for the delicate, The Dunes is a glorious 300-foot-high, 75-degree incline of soft sand that has been bleached by the blazing sun. At first glance, it is awe-inspiring. Its beauty is evident, yet uncompromising, in its call. It is a majestic uphill sand climb resolutely postured as the menacing hurdle to divine destiny. Yet, still they come to answer its call. Still they arrive consumed by the desire to be more than they were when they began, hoping that what lies inside of them is the fullness of life available beyond The Dunes.

Our story begins on a very beautiful and very hot day at The Dunes. It is 105 degrees outside and we find a man and a woman baking in the afternoon sun. One stands at the top of the 300-foot mound, the other, at the bottom.

The One: I love you.

The Other: And I love you.

The One: I want you with me. Take this journey, meet me at the top and trust that everything will be all right.

The Other slowly considered the request and believing that their love was heaven sent elected to rise to the challenge. But wait…

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio and raised in the Bay Area of Northern California, Erin grew up with an innate love for dance, theatre and the written word. A graduate of Loyola Marymount University, Erin began her career in the arts as an actress and choreographer. After booking several notable roles in television and film, Erin began to use her gift of writing in blogs featuring political and social commentary, as well as developing content for theatrical use.

Although The Dunes, is a divine departure from Erin’s previous writings it is by far her most cherished work to date. “I wrote The Dunes initially as self therapy because I needed to release some painful experiences and disappointments from my past. I had this thirst to walk in the complete fullness of life with joy as my constant companion. I had no idea what effect it would have on other people. But when I saw people read it and be released from fears that had held them back for years…when I saw people forgive and be able to walk in the freedom forgiveness brings…when I saw people commit and serve and how those things opened up new opportunities in their life, I was just humbled. When asked why she writes, Erin pauses and reflects on the truth of her heart. “I write because although I am only now beginning to truly love the process, I have always loved the outcome. Like a composer, words become my notes. I string them together in song eliciting the response of my reader, grafting a picture of my soul. Where besides the written word can you effect change so utterly and so succinctly? What besides the written word can pierce the universal collective mind? Everything begins with a thought, but it isn’t until that thought is articulated in written word and those words passed down can life changing movement happen. It must be written, it must be expressed on tablet, and when it is, we all become greater, whether the writing be genius or fatuity, it has evoked thought and debate. Why wouldn’t I want to be apart of that phenomenon? Why wouldn’t I want to share my story, give my testimony…add my paradigm to the mix? Whether it is a novel, a poem, an essay or an article, it is humanity visited. An insight into a new or sometimes shared truth. In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God and the word was God. And with that I live my life”.

If you were to interview someone who is successful – in any field – there’s a really great chance they will mention a mentor. Someone who supported them on their path and showed them how to replicate the success they’ve experienced in their own endeavors.
Before I had a mentor, I didn’t know how important mentoring was. I really didn’t see the point at first. I was determined to figure it all out on my own and thought it may be better that way. And that I’d learn more through hands-on, rather than listening to someone else tell me how they did this or that.
I first became associated with my mentor, Natalie MacNeil, in late 2013. I had followed her work for some time and was really moved by her philosophy, ethic, and vision for women entrepreneurs. When she opened applications for her founding Concord mastermind group, I jumped right in.
Why Mentors Are Important
Mentorship means not doing this alone. It means having someone to show you the ropes  – and someone who will be there to cheer you on. Once I started working with my mentor, she was the perfect person who I could bounce my ideas off of. She gave me valuable feedback, and helped me to develop my plans. When I told her that I wanted to write a book she was the first person who said YES, you should. And she showed me how to plan my book proposal and query letter, and how to research agents and publishers. My mentor’s advice has been critical to my success as a writer, and as a business owner.
When you work with a mentor, their industry knowledge is at your disposal. You benefit from their years of training or information gathering. You are put on the fast track by being able to avoid the pitfalls and curve balls that they experienced. Mentors are important because they help you replicate what works, so that you can be successful in what you do.

  • Find a mentor that has actually accomplished what you are looking to do

Is Your Chair Killing You? #Excerpt by @KentBurden #AmWriting #Wellness

Over the years the one thing I have found to be true in life is that things are never as simple as we would like them to be. Just a few years ago if someone asked you if lived an active lifestyle, you knew that if you worked out for 30 to 60 minutes a day 4 to 6 days a week you could answer “yes.” If not, you said “I’m working on it.” For decades scientists have studied the relationship between how much we exercised and our exercise levels and health. But in the past five years, some scientists began looking at this correlation from a different perspective: Instead of thinking about what exercise does for the body, researches started to investigate what sitting for long periods of time does to the body. This was some seriously unconventional thinking.
Rather than looking at what we weren’t doing they started to look at what we were doing, which was a heck of a lot of sitting. In fact, by some estimates many people are sitting as much as 12 hours a day. This new perspective has begun to turn the science of sedentary studies on its head. Researchers from such diverse fields as epidemiology, molecular biology, biomechanics and physiology are seeing more data that is leading them to believe that the amount of sitting we do on a daily basis may not only be making us very sick, it could be causing us to die prematurely. The most disturbing revelation is that 30-60 minutes of sustained exercise may have little or no positive affect on a sedentary lifestyle. To put it simply, sitting for extended periods of time may be slowly killing you, and just working out after sitting around all day may not be enough to save you.
The fact that sitting around is bad for you isn’t very surprising; you would have to be living under a rock not to have heard that doing nothing for long periods of time could make you fat and unhealthy. But most of us thought that if we hopped on a treadmill or took a spin class or shook our groove thing in a Zumba class a few times a week, we’d be cool. But according to microbiologist Marc Hamilton from the University of Missouri we need to adjust our thought process. “People need to understand that the qualitative mechanisms of sitting are completely different from walking or exercising…Sitting too much is not the same as exercising too little. They do completely different things to the body.”
This subject has been thrust into the national spotlight with a new Australian study that looked at death rates over a three-year period. The study concluded that people who spent a lot of time sitting at a desk or in front of a television were more likely to die sooner than those who were only sedentary a few hours a day. Of more than 200,000 adults age 45 and older, the lead author of the study Hidde van der Ploeg and his colleagues at the University of Sydney found that people who reported sitting for at least 11 hours daily were 40 percent more likely to die during the study than those who sat less than 4 hours daily.
The results appear in the Archives of Internal Medicine, March 26, 2012, and reveal that the link between too much time sitting and shortened lives stuck even when they accounted for how much moderate or vigorous exercise people got, as well as their weight and other measures of health.
Another study released in July of 2012 showed that an analysis of five large studies that followed about 2 million people in several different countries lead by Peter Katzmarzyk of Louisiana State Universities Pennington Biomedical research Center found that the life expectancies of people who said they spent more than three hours a day sitting were a full two years less than people who spent less than three hours sitting daily. Maybe even more surprising was that this was true regardless of whether subjects reported getting the recommended amounts of exercise or not.
In a 2005 article in Science magazine, Dr. James A. Levine, an obesity specialist at the Mayo Clinic, gave his insights into why, despite similar diets, some people are fat and others aren’t. “We found that people with obesity have a natural predisposition to be attracted to the chair, and that’s true even after obese people lose weight,” he says. “What fascinates me is that humans evolved over 1.5 million years entirely on the ability to walk and move. And literally 150 years ago, 90% of human endeavor was still agricultural. In a tiny speck of time we’ve become “chair-sentenced,” Levine says. This “chair sentence” as Levine puts it may very well be a death sentence.
So what’s the big difference between sitting and standing, you ask? I mean just standing around seems every bit as lazy as sitting, doesn’t it? Hamilton knows better. “If you’re standing around and puttering, you recruit specialized muscles designed for postural support that never tire,” he says. “They’re unique in that the nervous system recruits them for low-intensity activity and they’re very rich in enzymes.” One enzyme, lipoprotein lipase, sucks fat and cholesterol from the blood stream, and burns the fat for energy while shifting the cholesterol from LDL (the bad kind of cholesterol) to HDL (the healthy kind of cholesterol). When you’re sitting, the muscles are relaxed, and enzyme activity drops by 90% to 95%, leaving fat to hang out in the bloodstream. After a couple hours of sitting, healthy cholesterol drops by 20%. Amazingly this is just one of the myriad of chemical changes that take place in the body while we sit. Sitting for extended periods of time has a huge cascade of effects on the body, everything from back pain and restricted blood flow to being implicated in an elevated risk of certain kinds of cancer.  Let’s take a look at what this new research really has to say.

A Day in the Life of JennaLee Gallicchio @allstarpaws #DogTraining #NonFiction

Being that I am a professional dog trainer and not a full time writer my day usually starts with two lumps of dog somewhere pressed against my body.
During the colder months Ryder, my 2 year old Australian Shepherd/Cattle Dog mix,  and Emmy, my 11 month old Alaskan Husky/ Greyhound mix,  think that I am their personal heating pad. During the warmer months I’m not sure what they think but they both like to stay close.
I am not complaining because honestly I love waking up with them every morning.
What time we get up varies from day to day but we all start with a great good morning greeting.  If you’ve never had a dog I can’t fully explain with words what that feels like. If you have a dog, you know exactly what I am talking about.
After I take care of any necessities I bring them them out for a quick morning pee break.  Then it is time for breakfast for all of us.
I don’t have a normal 9 to 5 job and my schedule varies from day to day but I always try to get some play /training time in with them.  They, well really all of us, thrive on it!
After I’ve taken care of them I will then head on over to my clients houses for a session which can last anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. Some people I work with them and their dogs and others I work with just the dogs. Regardless it is always extremely gratifying work.
During this time it is usually when ideas for instructional books or videos will come into my head.  Sometimes the flow of them is overwhelming but it’s always exciting to identify where I can continue to help people all over the world with their dogs.
And more importantly help the dogs with their humans!
After my appointments are finished I come back home to my adorable puppies and just spend some time with them.  They fill my life with laughter and joy – it’s great!
One of the things that I love doing with them is Agility.  Ryder and I are becoming quite the team as we learn the sport.  Emmy and I are starting to learn how to work together.  Building a strong foundational relationship with them makes everything easier.
In the quiet time of my day sometimes I will write, (I have a book that has been in process for a while because it’s been on hold a bit since Emmy came), I will blog for my training website www.allstarpaws.com, work on a clients website (I dabble in Web Design), or just chill out watching a good movie or reading a good book.
I am enjoying creating the life that I’ve never dreamed about because honestly I didn’t know that this life was possible.  I just keep moving forward one step, sometimes tiny, baby steps and miraculous things keep happening.  Life is good!

Make the Most of your #Radio Interview by South Africa’s Top Psychic @ShannonWalbran #WriteTip

It’s so wonderful for us to hear your voice, it’s as if you’re sitting in our home. It’s a great opportunity to promote your book or your project. Smile when you speak, we can tell.
If you’re being interviewed, submit your own questions. Producers will thank you for saving them time. You’ll benefit by steering the conversation. Write out the answers and practice reading them aloud to a friend.
Create soundbites. If you had time for only one sentence, what would your top message for us be? Two? Time your soundbites to less than ten seconds and edit them down to three or four words. One of my messages is, “Always remember you are guided!”
When you’re on the air, speak only to the host. Imagine that he or she is the only person listening. Forget about us in the audience - there could be five people tuning in or five million. If you and the host are having a lively conversation, everyone will be fascinated. Say the host’s name while you’re speaking and make eye contact. We listeners can feel the connection.
If you get asked a question you didn’t anticipate, laugh to buy yourself a moment.  Then start your answer with the word “Yes.” Even if you’re going to disagree with the question’s point, you’ll be in the driver’s seat: “Ha ha ha! Yes, Caroline, many people do ask whether believing in angels is silly!  What I’ve found is that it gives me comfort, confidence, and direction.”
Remember you’re the expert on what you know. It’s perfectly fine to take calls from listeners and share your experiences. If you’re being interviewed about your book, be sure to mention, “As I write about in my book Guided…” for people who are just tuning in. You don’t have to solve all the world’s problems, just speak from your own position.
Have fun. It’s over in a flash! Try to get your contact information (your website) for example on air so we can reach you to find out more.
Follow up and get the podcast. Edit it down to just your interview segment using an editor such as Garage Band. Post it on your website, and link to it using your Facebook, Twitter, and other social media accounts.  Be sure to send it out with your next newsletter so we can listen at leisure.
Consider using the podcast as the soundtrack to a Youtube video trailer about your book.  Even a slideshow of the book cover, your headshot, and a series of photos representing the book’s setting could make a great promotional piece.

This book by Shannon Walbran, seeks to assist readers to discovers their own soul’s purposes’ and learn techniques to improve your health, happiness and enlightenment. Shannon does this by describing her own life plan and how she was led through very exciting and thrilling life experiences.

The Birth of Jesus

The Christians who celebrate Christmas must know that Jesus was not born on the 25th of December some 2000 years ago, as the church falsely claims. There is no evidence of such date given in the entire Bible, but on the contrary, the 25th of December corresponds to the birth of many pagan sun Gods. Sol invictus, (the unconquered sun) for example was the sun God of the Roman Empire. Christmas is just another name for the winter festival called Saturnalia that the pagans used to celebrate on that day in Rome. The truth is that Jesus was most probably born in midsummer and not winter from evidence both in the Bible and the Quran.
The evidence in the Bible is found in Luke 2:7-8: “She gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a feeding trough, because there was no room for them in the inn. There were shepherds in the same country staying in the field, and keeping watch by night over their flock.”
The shepherds in Palestine do not let their flocks at night in the thick of December and the suggestion that Mary had other children by stating that “she gave birth to her first born” is not accepted in Islam. If she gave birth as a virgin, it means that she was very special and was not meant to marry a man in her life.
