Have you included a lot of your life experiences, even friends, in this plot? Cyra’s issues around the loss of her breasts are very much my experience. Obviously, I didn’t have a master who cut them off in a fit of rage, but how she deals with her loss is mine. I had a man in my life at the time I had my bilateral mastectomy who was very like Leonis, (except he never killed a lion, thank goodness). He helped me value myself in the way Leonis helps Cyra value herself
How important are villains in your story? I do have a villain in this story. All my Roman stories do. I think that’s because that period is just rife with degenerate types who wield power over the masses. In ‘Lionslayer’s Woman’ the villain is a bumbling, rather stupid stalker who has done some pretty awful things to people he felt had made fun of him over the years. He wants Galeria, so he uses his father’s power to have her father put on a list of seditionists being drawn up by the emperor. He underestimates the effects of this ploy and then tries to deal with the fallout from it. He’s more pathetic than anything else. A weak, stupid man with more power than sense. I got a lot of satisfaction seeing him get his comeuppance at the end.
What are you reading at the moment? I have been reading Blakely Chorpenning’s books recently. She is a wonderful wordsmith. I envy her that skill and I just get lost is her lyrical prose.
Do you have any advice for writers? The Indie Publishing phenomenon means that anyone who has a story to tell can find an audience. But if you’re writing because you want to be rich and famous like Dan Brown or JK Rowling, quit now. The only reason to write is because it is your passion – it is an end in itself. If your reason for writing is financial then you’ll likely be disappointed. If you write because it’s your passion, you can never be disappointed. And even if only one person reads your work, it’s enough.
If you could leave your readers with one bit of wisdom, what would it be? Find something you’re passionate about and follow it wherever it takes you. It will lead to all kinds of adventures and give your life purpose (and with any luck, a little sprinkling of love). And the challenges on the way? They just make the journey more interesting.

Which did you find more appealing, the introduction or the conclusion? I think I like the conclusion more because it was more straightforward than the introduction. It took a few of us at the book club awhile for the book to kick in. There was just so much detail to absorb in the beginning and not all of it was relevant to the story itself.
Why would you recommend or not recommend this book? I think this book will be enjoyed by people who specifically like this genre. Anyone who does not have a preference for historical fiction with some steamy bits, will not like this book.
Did the book description relate to the story? Not really, the book description was confusing and the book itself was far better.
