Host Chronicles: The Devil's Offspring (Volume 1) by D L Cox #Excerpt #Fantasy #BookClub

Nat had listened attentively to Sheba’s life story, and then he told her about his mission and Simon’s true identity. Sheba tried her best to take Nat seriously, but couldn’t keep from doubling over in laughter.

“I’m serious,” Nat told her.

Sheba held her stomach. “So Simon Clash is the devil’s son, and he’s at war with his sister who crossed over from hell. And a demon told you all of this?”

“Not all of it,” Nat explained. “Just the part about Simon’s sister.”

Sheba laughed again. “And you carry a sword that you’re going to give to the human/angel who’s going to save the world from Simon.”

Nat nodded. “Yeah, I’m serious.”

Sheba looked into his eyes and stopped laughing. “I don’t believe it,” she muttered.

“What?” Nat asked, frustrated.

She touched his cheek. “You really believe what you’re saying.”

“That’s because it’s true,” Nat insisted.

“Okay,” Sheba said. “Let’s just agree that Simon Clash is a very bad man. What do we do now?”

Nat stood and paced. “If they saw you with me, they probably think we’re working together.”

Sheba pressed, “Yeah, but what should we do?”

“We wait,” Nat said.

“Wait?” Sheba asked with a frown.

Nat nodded. “They have the tactical advantage out there. We have the advantage in here. They’ll get restless and storm the place, and we’ll take them out when they do.”

Sheba grabbed a gun off the bed and chambered a round. “It makes sense to me.”

Olga Soaje on Motivation, #Writing & Favourite Books (#AmReading #Women)

at 11:30 AM 0 comments

Have you always enjoyed writing?
I have always expressed myself better in writing than verbally and when a serious topic was on the table, it was easier for me to do it with pen and paper. I was from an early age an avid reader but somehow I saw writing as something foreign. Little did I know it would be something that would bring me so much joy.

What motivates you to write?
I wish I could explain something that seems so intangible, but the best I can do is describing it as a need to do it. To express myself and get rewarded every time a reader sends me a message of how my book touched their life or inspired them.

What books did you love growing up?
I loved and still do Dr.Seuss books; I also loved “Little Women” and Jane Austen lather on. In high school I started a routine of mix-reading self-help books with novels (a thing I still do).

What book genre of books do you adore?
Women’s Fiction.
Self-Help
Literary Fiction.

What book should everybody read at least once?
I would say there so many great books but one I always come back to for some reason is “Great Expectations” by Charles Dickens.

Is there any books you really don’t enjoy?
I would say I don’t enjoy horror or terror in movies or books.

Where do you get inspiration from?
From seeing life situations and thinking “What if?” there are so many stories to waiting to be told.

Is your family supportive? Do your friends support you?
I have been blessed with family and friends that have supported this passion since I’ve told them, with many expressions from reading the book in process, discussing stories, proofreading, to helping me thinks of ways to market.

Do you plan to publish more books?
Yes, I have more ideas that still need to come to life.

How do you write – laptop, pen, paper, in bed, at a desk?
I write mostly in my laptop either on a small desk I have at home or at a coffee shop in between errands.

Can you give us a short synopsis of Twelve Houses?
Dying often has its own decorum. The family gathers, the doctors explain, and kind nurses murmur advice and consolation in sterilized corridors. Nathan’s death was not like that. He went abruptly, without a hint of warning. Amelia woke up to find her husband dead of a heart attack, beside her in their marriage bed. Only then does the family gather, the circle of friends console, and the rabbi arrive. As the rabbi tears Amelia’s garments in the ancient ritual of mourning, her world is turned upside down. She feels like a shadow in her own life, almost like she is watching someone else act her part. She has become a stranger to herself in her shock and disorientation.

Her son offers consolation. As a doctor, he also offers her medication to take the edge off her sharp suffering, which she will not allow herself to accept. Instead, she lets him give her something of more lasting value: his spiritual support and his certain, understanding love. Yet she knows she cannot intrude on his life, cannot lean on him. He is soon to be married, to start a new life, and his own family.

Amelia’s daughter, her first-born child, is more of a problem. Amelia knows they were never as close as they should have been. As a mother, she feels she was too interested in her own life and her own career to give her daughter the warmth and nurturing she deserved.

As Amelia wanders through her artist’s studio, she comes upon her old wishing jar, the handmade prayer jar in which each family member placed their secret longings. Opening it, written on an old scrap of paper, Amelia finds her daughter’s dearest wish: “Help mom understand me.”

Work has become impossible, though her agent nags. For decades, sculpting has been her livelihood and much more. The feel of the soft clay in her hands has satisfied her in a way nothing else could and allowed her to express herself when she had no other way. Her talent has brought her money and fame, but now it is useless to her.

The work that had been a source of goodness and wholeness now seems to be betraying her. In her studio, she now finds hopeless grief instead of peace. She cries and does nothing, speaking silently with her absent husband and endlessly reworking the past.

It is her daughter who rescues her. Chloe needs help with her pregnancy and her marriage. It is the kind of help her mother is glad to give. Yet the two women still struggle to build a relationship, neither quite able to accept the other’s choices. Nevertheless, their attempts at understanding help to draw Amelia out of her consuming grief.

Amelia does find new work. With it she finds a new way to look at the world, one that that does not ignore her ideals. In the city in which she first fell in love with the man who would become her husband, she begins to learn to live again.

twelveHouses
Can anything good follow the best thing that ever happened to you?
Amelia Weiss loved her husband of thirty-five years very much, but now he’s left her a widow. Without him, she is unable to work in her sculpture studio without crying. She no longer has a bridge to her estranged daughter. And she can’t seem to keep her mind in the present.

But when her daughter reaches out asking for her help and her agent threatens a lawsuit if Amelia doesn’t deliver for an upcoming exhibit, she’s forced to make a choice. Will she reengage with her life and the people in it—allowing room for things to be different than they were before? Or, will she remain stuck in the past, choosing her memories over real-life relationships?

Thrust fully into the present, Amelia stumbles into a surprising journey of self-discovery.

Carlos Aranda on #BookMarketing that Works for Him @Losman1976 #AmReading #Christian

at 10:30 AM 0 comments

 Who is your favorite author?
I have a few for sure, but if I have to choose one it would be Dr. Charles Stanley. His writing inspired me to want to write in the same manner.

What book genre of books do you adore?
I love books that are faith inspired, spiritual devotions, and other like the chicken soup for the soul series.

What book should everybody read at least once?
The book I feel everyone should read at least once is the bible, even though it may not be the popular opinion.

Is there any books you really don’t enjoy?
I am not a fan of my son’s knock, knock joke books. I think that I have now heard every knock, knock joke made by man.

What do you hope your obituary will say about you?
I hope that it says that through my life that I had helped many people through their storms, trials, and troubles by sharing his life.

Location and life experiences can really influence writing, tell us where you grew up and where you now live?
I grew up in the Northern California, east bay. I am currently still there. I have been here most of my life except the two years that I went to college in Calgary, Alberta.

How did you develop your writing?
My writing style comes from life and personal experiences. I take what I have been through and learned from and share it.

Where do you get your inspiration from?
All of my inspiration comes from the wisdom of God Himself. He teaches me daily things that I and His people need to get through life the way that He intended for us to.

What is hardest – getting published, writing or marketing?
I would have to say that marketing is the hardest part. It’s trying to find your target market, enlarging your network and getting your name known. It’s a matter of patience and diligent work.

What marketing works for you?
I have found that Facebook, twitter, LinkedIn, goodreads, and many other social media outlets have proven to be great methods of marketing.

ConversationsWithGod

This book is a biblical perspective on how God wants us to see and get through the trials that life brings our way. It is a book of conversations and things brought to our attention that we may not always see and how through scripture God wants us to get through them.

For M.J. Kane Success is Seeing a Project from Inception to Completion #Romance #Contemporary #Fiction

at 11:00 AM 0 comments
What other jobs have you had in your life?
I’ve worked in banking operations as a mini-key operator, done dispatch for UPS, and Dispatch and Customer Service for Safelite Auto Glass. I also do floral design and worked for myself, as well as in the floral department of Hobby Lobby. I loved that job! I also work behind the scenes for my husband’s businesses as well. We’re a household full of entrepreneurs!

How do you write- lap top, pen, paper, in bed, at a desk?
It starts with pen and paper and ends on my laptop. I mostly work at my desk which is located in my bedroom.

Where do you get support from? Do you have friends in the industry?
I have a very close nit group of a few authors who I had the privilege to meet at the beginning of my writing journey. They are my mentors. I go to them with any questions I have and get wonderful feedback.

Every writer has their own idea of what a successful career in writing is, what does success in writing look like to you?
Success to me is seeing a project from inception to completion. Whether or not it’s self-published, small press published, or traditionally published, learning the art of storytelling, the technical side of writing, and the tricks to marketing can make or break you. But if you can come up with a story and get it down on paper from page one to The End…you’ve done something many people dream about. To me, that is the beginning of working towards having a successful career.

It is vital to get exposure and target the right readers for your writing, tell us about your marketing campaign?
Book clubs and social networking are key. Becoming a member of a group of people who love reading allows you to tune in to what readers want. Taking their desires to heart and finding a way to work them into your writing builds a fan base that can last a life time. I have the most fun in my groups!

Tell us about your new book? What’s it about and why did you write it?
My latest release is, Lonely Heart (Book 3 of The Butterfly Memoirs). The story follows Kaitlyn Rodgers as she comes to term with the reality of her life. The ‘perfect life’ she thought she’d found changed the moment she found out she’s pregnant. Hard decisions have to be made, and the consequences of past decisions now dictate her future. But through it all, there’s a ray of hope…if she accepts it. In this story, Kaitlyn faces the reality of becoming a single parent. Like many women, it wasn’t what she expected to happen. My goal is to help women who can connect with her remember that though the relationship with their child’s father may have come to an end, love can still be found.

When you are not writing? How do you like to relax?
There’s time for that???? LOL, I catch up on my favorite TV shows…Scandle, Revolution, Almost Human, S.H.I.E.L.D, Arrow, and Sleepy Hollow. Sunday’s are family night, which means cards, conversation, and movies. I’m really starting to love those nights!

How often do you write? And when do you write?
It depends. My mind is always flushing out story lines, playing with dialogue and ‘what if’ scenarios whether I’m in the shower, driving, or cooking dinner. It also depends on what I’m working on. I’m blogging at least once a week. But when I’m working a deadline, I’m on it every day for as many hours as I can put in.

Sometimes it’s so hard to keep at it- What keeps you going?
My family, for starters. They have faith in me and support me, so suddenly deciding to give it all up would affect them as much as me. Then there are my readers who have invested their money and time into supporting me. I’ve worked so hard to gain that support that every time I feel like putting down my pen, I think of the wonderful feedback I’ve received, and know I have to keep going. But most of all, my Muse won’t allow me to stop imagining stories and characters. So, I guess I’ll keep writing!

How do you feel about social media websites such as Facebook and Twitter? Are they a good thing?
YES! Nobody would know who I was if it weren’t for the ability to get online and shout it out. For three years, I was on Facebook, Twitter, and blogging about my desire to write and what my story was about. I gained followers and possible readers before I knew it. My new found friends were just as excited as me to learn I’d been accepted by a publisher and the story I talked about was about to be published. They are still with me now. I don’t know what I’d do without them!

LonelyHeart

The consequences of past decisions can ruin your future.

Instead of planning her wedding, Kaitlyn Rodgers is facing motherhood alone, the pressures of a new job, and caring for her rebellious younger sister. What should have been the happiest time of her life turns into one stressful event after another.

After watching his father struggle to raise a family by himself, auto mechanic Antonio Rodriguez refuses to follow his father’s footsteps…even if it means a lifetime of loneliness.

When Kaitlyn’s car breaks down, though, Antonio goes beyond auto repairs to take care of her needs. An unexpected friendship begins, allowing them a glimpse of happiness…until the father of Kaitlyn’s child returns, ready to offer her marriage and a future. But at what cost?

Forty 2 Days (The Billionaire Banker) #Romance #Excerpt by @GeorgiaLeCarre #AmReading

at 10:30 AM 0 comments
‘‘You taste and smell the same, let’s see if you feel the same,’ he says, and, lifting me slightly off the ground, grasps my thighs and spreads them wide apart.  My shoes fall off with a dull thud.  He returns my bare feet to the ground soundlessly.  His large hands grab my hips and tilt my lower body so it is perfectly aligned with his cockhead.  For a second I feel him tease me by running it along my clit and then he drives into me.

The impact makes me shudder and my breath catch in my throat.  My mouth opens in a soundless cry.  I draw a breath quickly.  Prepare myself for the next swift thrust of pleasure.  It comes before I am ready.  This time I cannot help it, I utter a strange cry, but my muscles are already clenching him and sucking him even deeper into my body.

He sets up a rapid pace.  Every wild plunge into my depths has me jerking in response.  Slowly I am lifted higher and higher until I am standing uncomfortably on the tips of my toes, my hips tilting higher and higher, wanting more and more of the gloriously thick invasion.  My thighs and calf muscles are so tense they start to ache and my heart is beating so fast I feel it thudding like a drum inside my ribcage.  My sex becomes a greedy, hungry mouth sucking at him.

I force myself to hold my body in the same position while he hammers into me until, with one last painful thrust that I register at the base of my womb, he calls my name and finds his climax.  His cum is slick and hot inside me.  For a second his nose nuzzles in the crook of my neck and then he rouses himself and pushes away from me.

I don’t turn to face him, but slowly set my heels down to the ground and push myself away from the wall.  I will gather myself a tiny bit more before I turn again to face his condemnation.  I feel weak, raw, bruised, abused, vulnerable, but…satisfied.  I should have felt shame, but I don’t.  I love this man.

I turn around slowly.

He is dressing quickly.  While buttoning his shirt with his back to me, he says, ‘I will get Laura to send you a morning after pill.’

A stray thought.  A bit late for that, mate.  If he knew.  If he only knew.  I say nothing, suddenly feeling my nakedness.  Soon he will be dressed and I will be the only naked one in the room.  I begin to walk to the bathroom.

‘Wait,’ he orders. I long to cover myself, but I do not.  He cannot humiliate me.  I will not allow it.

When he is fully dressed he turns and looks at my exposed body. It is masked well, but it is still there, the hunger.  Still now.  When he has just been satiated.  So much remains that my eyes widen.  It is the same for me: I want him again.  I am just as helpless to the call of his body.

But he turns away from me.

I watch him go to the side cupboard and pull out a book.  It is covered in leather.  Looks like a journal.  He tosses it on the bed next to me.  ‘This is for you.  I want you to keep a record of everything I do to you.’

‘Why?’ I whisper.

‘For my reading pleasure?’

‘That’s just sick. I’m not doing it,’ I say.

As if I am a life-size doll he picks me up and tosses me on the bed.  I land on my back with a bounce, but I stare up at him defiantly.

He stands over me.  His face is hard and forbidding.  Very gently he touches the necklace.

‘You’re nothing but skin and bone,’ he says, almost to himself.  His hands reach for my ankles and lifting them up he opens my legs into a V.  Turning his head to one side he kisses my right ankle and runs his hot, velvety tongue along my calf.  My breathing quickens.  At my knee he stops and sucks the tender skin at the back of it, and then that cunning tongue licks on to my inner thigh.

‘How much do you want me to taste you?’ he whispers.

As an answer I moan and try to push my sticky legs further apart.

‘No, ask me nicely.’

‘Yes, please,’ I beg.

‘Please what?’ he asks enjoying his dominance and control.  His finger lightly circles my wet opening.

‘Oh God…please, please… Taste me,’ I beg shamelessly.

‘Will you write your journal?’

‘Yes, yes, I will.’

He straightens his arms and holding my trembling legs open wide he looks at my sex, swollen and drenched with both our juices, a glistening treasure.

‘Cunt,’ he dismisses, and letting go of my legs leaves the bedroom.
