Who is your favorite author?
Stephen King has to be at the top. I also love Anne George, Jodi Picoult, and of course Agatha Christie.
What book genre of books do you adore?
All of them. There isn’t one genre that I can point to and say I’ll never read. Each genre offers you something different in form that I want to read and study all of them from Literary Fiction to Romance. As long as the story is interesting I want to read it.
What book should everybody read at least once?
To Kill A Mockingbird. It’s such a powerful story written for adult from a child’s perspective. The writing is so evocative of a time and a place. It’s one of those books that is both a study in the craft of writing and entertaining. I read it over and over.
Is there any books you really don’t enjoy?
No, but I can get fatigued by certain types of story when they become over saturated. For instance at the moment I won’t pick up anything with a vampire in it. I’m so bored with the whole notion these days. But in the future I might read another one.
What do you hope your obituary will say about you?
I hope that it will say she was well loved by her friends and family. I had to attend a funeral once where there were so many people in attendance that it was standing room only all the way out to the vestibule. This person wasn’t a celebrity, but he had touched so many lives that people wanted to pay their respects. To me that is a testament to a life well lived.
Location and life experiences can really influence writing, tell us where you grew up and where you now live?
I was a military brat so I grew up on military bases. I thought tanks and soldiers rolling through the neighborhood was normal but it turns out it wasn’t. We always came back to Minnesota where both my parents are from so I really consider Minnesota my home. It’s where I live now and it really is the best place for me to live.
