Author Spotlight - Coral Russell

at 11:30 AM
What books have most influenced your life?
After twenty years I've added a third book to my all time favorite list. Palimpsest made me cry at the end, not because it's sad but because of the depth of the emotion and beautiful words/phrases that rolled off my tongue as I was reading it. I am simply in love with that story.

Can we expect any more books from you in the future?
Yes, and the future is a big place.

Have you started another book yet?
I have started several but haven't finished them. I have several ideas and projects but this year I wanted to work on short writing pieces to improve. I feel with each book I have to get better or be able to write better than the last one.

What are your current writing projects now?
A fantasy, the last book to the ghost hunter series, a flash fiction compilation, and another thriller set in the southwest.

Are you reading any interesting books at the moment?
I'm always reading a good book and have added Barry Eisler's books to my must read list.

Are there any new authors that have sparked your interest and why?
I run into a lot of new authors: Joe Crumbaugh, JC Andrijeski, SM Johnson, Lynn Messina, Gene Doucette and tons more.

What are some of the best tools available today for writers, especially those just starting out?
Information! There is information out there on every step of the process of writing, publishing, marketing a book.

Do you have any advice for writers?
There are only three things you should spend time on: writing, readers, building a platform

Do you have any specific last thoughts that you want to say to your readers?
I hope they enjoy the story.

What do you do to unwind and relax?
There are a ton of local activities like the Plaza Classic Film Festival (largest in the world) and the El Paso Comic Con, Miku Day, Greek Festival. I love attending these events.

What dreams have been realized as a result of your writing?
Being published.

If you could leave your readers with one bit of wisdom, what would you want it to be?
Research shows reading makes people smarter, better thinkers, better people. Be proud that you read.

When you wish to end your career, stop writing, and look back on your life, what thoughts would you like to have?
I'm all ready proud that I wrote and published a book. That's always going to be a major achievement for me.
